This trip starts from Christchurch with a transfer to the base of Mount Cook, New Zealand’s highest mountain and its stunning glacial lakes. From Mount Cook we enjoy a diverse range of New Zealand’s unique alpine and coastal scenery as we follow the Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail to the Pacific Ocean.
The Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail is graded easy to intermediate and includes sections cycling on the road as well as off road on designated cycle routes. The trail is approximately 300km long and has an overall descent of 2000ft/600m.

We will meet you at your accommodation in Christchurch with bicycles and equipment and drive via Geraldine and Tekapo to Mt Cook Station. After lunch we start our ride from Jollie River to Tasman Point and return. On a clear day this section of the tray will offer amazing views of Aoraki/Mt Cook which tower above snow capped peaks of the Mt Cook National Park. After our warmup ride you can either cycle or ride in the van to the overnight accommodation at Braemar Station. Lunch and evening meal included.
This morning we will drive the 20km shingle road to Hayman Road Carpark and the start of the next off road section. From there we ride the Pukaki Lake Trail with Aoraki/Mr Cook again as your backdrop, past the Pukaki Visitor Centre, and on to Twizel via the tussock grassland of Pukaki Flats. Total riding for the day is 25km. Breakfast, lunch and evening meal included.
We start the day with a short drive to Ohau Weir before getting on the bikes. Ride around the shore of Lake Ohau (9km) and continue on to Ohau Lodge along the sealed road for 10km. The next section to Omarama starts with a good climb via Ruataniwha Conservation Park, which offers stunning views back over the Benmore Range. From the highest point it becomes a rolling descent to lunch at the historic woolshed on Quailburn Road (20km). From there it is a 19km shingle road ride to Omarama so either hitch a ride in the van for part of it or for the hardy a good downhill bike ride into town. Total maximum riding for the day is 59km. Breakfast lunch and evening meal included.
A good days riding with small sections of off road trail but mainly on sealed road following the shore of the Waitaki River past several hydro lakes and their massive dams all the way to the small town of Kurow and our overnight accommodation at a local Bed and Breakfast. Toatl riding is 68km. Breakfast and lunch included.
Drive the first main section from Kurow to Duntroon before starting the days ride to Oamaru. This section takes us past limestone formations known as ‘Elephant Rocks’ before connecting with quiet country roads through Weston where we join the old railway line and continue into Oamaru. Once in Oamaru we can continue on the historic trail to Oamaru harbour where the trail finally ends adjacent to the famous Victorian Historic precinct. Total riding 55km. Breakfast, lunch and evening meal included.
After a morning of leisure, exploring the local historic area with it magnificent limestone architecture, it is in the van for the 3.5 hour drive back to Christchurch via Timaru and Ashburton. Breakfast and lunch included.

This is a beginner to intermediate level route with an average 35 to 75 kilometers cycling per day on sealed and unsealed roads and trails, with a number of moderate hill climbs along the route. Ride as little or as much as you like each day with a support vehicle option to assist if required.
