About Us
Kia Ora and Welcome to Independent Cycle Tours New Zealand.
ICT
NZ has been set up by cycle tourers, for cycle tourers. We have extensive
knowledge of bike touring in the South Island of New Zealand, gained through
tens-of-thousands of kilometres cycling all the routes we recommend. We
have used the knowledge gained to put together guided
and self-guided mountain bike tour
routes because we think they offer the best experience of the spectacular
scenery and unique culture that the South Island has to offer.
The South Island of New Zealand has an incredible diversity of landscapes to explore and this combined with New Zealand's friendly and easy-going population and low traffic volumes makes the South Island the worlds best cycling location for all fitness levels.
To undertake a cycling tour in New Zealand, you need a bike capable of standing up to the rigours of this challenging countryside. We offer well-serviced bikes with Shimano deore 27 speed componentry as miminum. We believe that anything less is not capable of dealing with the demands of cycle touring. Don't accept poor quality 21 or 24 speed lower specification cycles unless you want to risk sitting on the roadside when they break down. High specification Shimano LX and XT componentry cycles offer slightly improved performance and weight reduction on the bike. However, the difference relative to deore is small and the costs are markedly higher. For these reasons we believe shimano deore specification cycles offer the quality and value you will require to get the best out of your cycling experience.
One of the key difference between ICTNZ and other bike tour companies is the quality of the accommodation and friendliness of the hosts. We carefully check all accommodation to ensure the best possible experience for all our customers. We firmly believe that half your holiday experience is made by the friendly local people you meet.
We started out in 2003 with the aim of providing a range of quality self-guided tours through-out the South Island of New Zealand. With increasing demand for these tours, we now have the numbers and know-how to offer guided tours for those who would like to meet up with other like-minded cyclists. With our custom-built cycle trailers and range of support vehicles, we look forward to showing you some of the truly awesome rides in this cyclists paradise.
